I wonder what the unsuspected listener, anyone unfamiliar with Kansas & the Elefante brothers in specific, might think by looking at the artwork.
It looks a bit aggressive, as if the elephant is coming straight at you, doesn’t it?
Even more confusing is the name.
Nifty wordplay but comparisons with -the wider known I imagine- Mastodon are inevitable and although these two bands have absolutely nothing in common, people may still get the wrong idea.
One more reason to stop using *generic* tags when cataloguing music 😉

Speaking of tags & genres, “3” is a fine example of Pomp Rock/Art Rock/MHR.
Yeah, yeah, I know. We’ve gone from generic to the opposite end; don’t blame me, all 3 terms apply here.
Multiple vocal layers are in abundance, harmonies are heavenly, choruses are divine, you get the picture.
Remaining indifferent is impossible, whether you’re a progster or more into AOR stuff it’s bound to move you.
Just don’t ask me to recommend a single song, the album is brilliant from start to finish.
I do have a few hints to give though:
Kansas die-hard fans check #4, “One day down by the lake” first.
[In case the sticker on the cover escaped you, Kerry Livgren -along with Dave Amato- handles the lead guitars]
Boston/Journey fans #8, “Lying” was written specifically for you – contrary to the song’s title, I’m not lying 😛
