    WARNING:

*Hair Metal* album, NOT representative of MacAlpine’s work!
I stumbled upon some hostile reviewers claiming this was Tony’s biggest mistake/second rate faceless AOR/“what was he thinking” etc.

“One man's trash is another man's treasure”

Well, I love every minute of it! – gave it 4½★ out of 5 @ RYM too.
Who says shredders can’t (or even worse, shouldn’t) compose *mainstream* music for a change?
This is CLASS A melodic Hard Rock in the vein of -among others- Def Leppard [“Pyromania”/“Hysteria” era].
As such, it has UNFORGETTABLE melodies and ASTONISHING vocal harmonies the combination of which creates incredible hooks.
The only difference is that in this case guitar solos serve the songs, not the other way around which, let’s face it, is not uncommon in a typical guitar oriented album.

Now I’m asking you. Is that so bad?
You know, a considerable proportion of my collection consists of instrumental CDs not the type of music you’d call easy-listening.
Admittedly, I don’t have MacAlpine’s full discography but I think I’m entitled an opinion.
Just because you don’t get to hear harmonic minor scales at full speed [well, at least not until the solo on “Wild ride”] doesn’t make “Eyes of the world” a mediocre album.

    Quiz:
Which Def Leppard ballad sounds dangerously similar [not to its full length though] to #9 “Wrong to love”?
I’ll give you a hint, “it bites-it bleeds-it’s bringing me to my knees” 😛

I heard the song “Wild ride” and I thought it was great from the start and I’m glad to confirm Tony had something to do with it.
    Excellent review by the way.
    Thanks for the link!

I bought this album not long after its initial release.
I wasn’t near as fond of it then as I am now.
Years of perspective later, I just have to listen to this CD on occasion!

I completely agree with -21grams on TM’s “Eyes of the world”. This is a welcome change for he and the band, particularly since AOR CDs were the norm.
It obviously wasn’t a direction he was going to stay in and it certainly didn’t slow him down at all or cause his peers to lose respect for TM.
Thanks for the links as I’ve been searching for this for a LONG time!

I love this one, have Tony’s discography (almost all) and this is just amazing.
In fact, it’s quite difficult to hear something bad from him…

The best album ever released by Tony MacAlpine (along with the M.A.R.S. Project).
    Thanks for uploading it!
