Definitely one of my favourites back in the ’90s. I played in a band back then (still do btw), we tried to model ourselves after these guys a bit in terms of accessibility vs. good playing.
    Superb album.
Personal favourite is a “A little too loose” together with “My kind of woman”, although there’s no bad song to be found anywhere on this album.
Probably the most under appreciated member here is Pat Torpey on drums, but he is so good.
To me he is the quintessential Rock drummer in the ’90s.
The right groove and always on the mark, plus his ability to play just about anything.

    Yes, there’s that.
And then there’s Steve Vai′s definition (addressing percussionists in general) while presenting the members of the band in a concert:
    [Spoken in a humorous tone]

    Drummers.
They hit things for a living!

    Take your pick.

P.S. I bought one of Pat Torpey′s solo albums a couple of years ago I haven’t really listened, 1997’s “Odd man out”.

I like drummers drumming, I am not sure whether I like drummers doing solo albums…

Which reminds me of a clinic of the mighty Gene Hoglan (of a lot of extreme metal bands fame).
This clinic was in Ahoy’ Rotterdam, the Netherlands and he started off playing drums to a DAT tape of several songs from one of the Death albums. He played for that band for a while.
He wore all black, incl. a huge leather cowboy head and a pair of huge boots.
After a while, when it was time for a Q&A sessions, someone asked about techniques…
    His response,

I don’t know about techniques. I just hit things… Hard!”

    Legendary.
