Another excellent album by Udo & co I’m rediscovering; haven’t given it a spin in years, shame on me 😐
Let’s see what we got here:
12 ultra-solid Melodic Heavy Metal tracks (the follow-up, “Timebomb” is much more raw & heavier in comparison),
Superb guitar work from Mathias Dieth whose leads are not only impressive but serve the songs perfectly/get stuck in your head instantly. The man arguably deserved a place among the most competent guitarists of the genre, can anybody confirm he’s still active? (Note to self: Check the Sinner albums he’s played in)
and last but not least, a fitting -typical of its era- production.

Rating the vocals is unnecessary and possibly insulting (some would even say sacrilegious), for we all know Mr. Dirkschneider is one of kind.
Yes, but what kind is that exactly? Well, given the origin, I’d say a (GROWLING) Rottweiler!

Overall: ★8 out of 10 (but you may want to start with “Animal house” which is a 9er)

Known Issues:
(Quite audible and thus annoying) pop/click on track #7, “Living on a frontline”, approximately at 0:11
Although this is one of the oldest CDs in my collection (considering I bought it in ’93), it remains in mint condition [the disc that is, the artwork seems a bit discoloured].
The noise is there even when played on standalone CD Players, it must have came out defective so there’s nothing I can do.

It would be safe to assume the entire batch came out defective…
Unfortunately, this is NOT the first time something like this happens and chances are it’s not going to be the last :
Over all these years I’ve spotted similar pop/click sounds, with the oldest being the original pressing of Rage’s “Perfect man” [Noise Records] or one of the early Running Wild albums – “Gates to Purgatory” if my memory serves me correctly.
And I try not to think of all those really, REALLY poor masterings I’ve stumbled upon;
the 1994 reissue of the LEGENDARY “Hear ‘n Aid” on CD for instance, has the audio quality of a cassette tape 😡
