Last Sunday was parliamentary elections day.
After 5 years the Socialist party regained power forming a majority government while the conservatives suffered a devastating loss blah, blah, blah.
And although I’m not taking the matter lightly -nor do I abstain from voting-, I can’t help thinking (in an immature way if you like, I call it *humour*) this:
    Michael Schenker for President!
Strike that out, I meant Prime Minister 😛

Now seriously, I did vote for the blondie:
it was for a “What’s the greatest guitar solo in history” poll.
Tough choice, readers came up with hundreds of songs – and they were all damn good.
I struggled and struggled and struggled trying to limit down a literally ENDLESS list until I made up my mind:
    “Save yourself”
It has to be the most well-structured (Hard Rock/Heavy Metal) song ever written!
    Allow me to elaborate:
It starts with a stunning solo. It continues with a brain-melting one. And when you think it’s over, it comes back to FINISH YOU OFF!
By that time YOU’LL HAVE SPASMS and other UNCONTROLLABLE reactions.
    I rest my case.

    (almost) Equal in value:
“Anytime”: Heart-breaking power ballad and most memorable song as far as the majority is concerned (…)
“There has to be another way”: Short, yet very effective instrumental – typical Schenker stuff.
As for the rest of the album, it has its moments; a few of the tracks are representative of the late 80s a.k.a. Hair Metal.
I don’t think anyone would have minded if “I am your radio” had been left out…

Last but not least, Robin McAuley does an excellent job.
I never understood why most MSG fans consider Gary Barden a better singer.
McAuley was, is and will be superior; oh, and in case I haven’t mentioned it, “In the midst of beauty” fell short of my expectations.

      Hank Moody :

Thank you for posting this. Do you have the Remastered Edition of “Perfect timing”?

Unfortunately, I have neither the Remaster nor any of the earlier editions :\
[I’m referring to the actual CDs of course, other people’s rips DON’T count, that goes without saying]

Hey, could you please post this again? The link is dead.
Either that or upload it on to Demons-Eye please as it is no longer there.
Thanks a million, I really want this.

“I am your radio” is probably the best thing on it! McAuley is a minor footnote in the MSG story, he may have seemed a good choice as he sang well in Grand Prix, but didn’t write their stuff, he could never co-write a “Lost horizons”.
Bardenʼs unbelievable sacking in ʼ81 or ʼ82 by management or Chrysalis all but ruined his and Schenkerʼs careers – the move to L.A. for “Save yourself” etc. was the death knell (let’s not mention the last 20 years).
